I had to remove the a/c evaporator to get the blower fan out. You remove it near the wiper blade area in the engine bay. Believe me, I tried everything to get it out without removing the evaporator. But a shop that does it often might have tricks of the trade?? If the a/c system is not working anyway it won't matter if you disconnect the system to do this job. With the evaporator out it's an easy job. IF the turbo is bad it will smoke. IF it doesn't smoke remove the intake pipe to turbo. You can reach into intake side to turn turbo shaft. IF it turns easily and isn't very sloppy, the turbo is probably good. If the car has the original auto tranny do not buy it. They cost $1300 or so and you will have to spend that soon. I bought an auto but swapped it to a 5 spd for a few hundred. I would not mess with it unless the tranny was replaced recently. Replaced with a good tranny, not a junkyard unit.
