I'm in a bind.
1) I was driving up to powder mountain the other day (I live in UT, first time I took the car to the hills), and my engine became uncomfortably warm. Not quite reaching the red, but up there. I know that the heater core is leaky, because I can smell coolant when the heat's on in the cabin, slowly but surely dropping coolant levels, now this. The car's temp is fine driving around the valley. I've gone through two treatments of bar's leaks, and still have stinky heat. I don't really want to use any more- I've decided to replace the heater core, as I'm coming up on my 120K service. Besides the blower motor, is there anything else that should be replaced at the same time (thermostat, fan switch)? What else should I check within the cooling system?
2) Speaking of cooling, my A/C compressor clutch is throwing oil- is there any way I can replace the bearing without replacing the compressor, or do I have to get another? I have to make a trip to texas this summer, so a bad compressor is not even an option!
Your insight is greatly appreciated!!! Have a great day!
