Subject: 86 9k. 2.0 turbo. Ok, now I feel dumb. But, there are never dumb questions, right? My car was "hunting" as some have posted--it wouldn't idle steadily at 1000 rpm. So, I bought a rotor and cap from a local parts store--non oem. The rotor wouldn't fit well, so I had to pretty much shove it on. Put the cap on and I thought I carefully changed the spark plug wires to the correct sequence. When I started it, it ran even rougher with the "new" rotor and cap. Hence, I thought I had switched the wires around, so I changed them. Even worse and the car died! So, I pulled these off and discovered that the rotor had split. Frustrated, I put the old rotor and cap back on. I put the wires back on. No start whatsoever. Finally, figured out the firing order 1342, in counter clockwise fashion with #1 being on the top and made sure this was correct. Still no start. Pulled the old fuel pump off and changed it with a new OEM bosch. NO avail. According to Haynes manual, I jumped the 14 & 22 circuits in the wiring harness and could hear the fuel pump working, so I think fuel is getting to the motor. Installed new bosch fuel relay, too. No help. My dad said that he could not hear the fuel pump going while I cranked the car. Pulled out a spark plug and could not see liquid on it, but it smelled of gas (new NGK plugs last week before this fiasco). took the coil wire off and held it close to the head while cranking--there is a spark there. Installed new bosch cap and rotor today. No start. Took the #3 plug and wire out and held close to the head while cranking, and there is spark there. What else could I do? I can't afford the $60 an hour for my local Saab mechanic to help me. I'm looking for some good advice here. Thanks in advance.
