I own a 1997 9000 CD 2.3LPT (170hp/125kw's, APC equipped) I installed a manual boost controller a few months back, not knowing weather I would see any improvments or not. Well all I can say is that the T-5 Trionic engine managment is a gem for using manual boost controllers, the car runs much higher boost, smoothly, and progressivly.(T-5 will adjust itself to any boost pressure within its limit, unlike T-7 which won't let you do that) I estimate the car to have around 210-240hp?? but with huge torque improvments because of the small turbo set up. I would highly recomend installing one of these valves on this model SAAB, as you can get excellent results from them. The only downside is, I'm running a fraction too much boost for the stock intercooler and the IC temp increases rapidly with stop start driving, as long as you're moving its fine. 3rd gear, from 60-100 is very quick, up there with the Viggen (I've driven one, and the 9-5 Aero 5sp). Another problem I have is that my car is an auto!!!!! so I have to be a little more careful when planting that right foot! :-) I see it as a much cheaper alternative than the Abbott Racing ECU upgrades, but without the safety of full APC control!!
