I had a very similar problem, except that I also lost reverse. Replacing the governor seals fixed 90% of the problem. I still have a too early upshift to 4th, but it's at 35-40 mph instead of the former 20 mph. I suspect the springs in the valve body are causing the remainder of my problem.
You say the governors were replaced. I assume you are talking about the governor seals which are two large rubber o-rings which are outside the main guts of the transmission. Are you sure both were actually replaced. Also, if a malfunction in the transmission caused the original failure in the governor seals, it could have done it again. If it's not that, then it could be in the valve body, which can be repaired and replaced without doing the entire transmission.
I would give Erikkson a call at (800) 388-4418. Talking to them stopped me from giving the go ahead on a $3,0000 transmission R&R.
