I've never seen it cause the car to drop back to base boost (by then my car has at least two fewer 'computers' than yours does, I think), and it didn't cause a bad idle either. But poor fuel economy, you bet!
You can get the universal from Townsend Imports, IPS, etc. Part # 13913, universal 3-wire Bosch. Should be around $40.
I think you'll probably need to dig deeper than just the O2 sensor for the idle and boost problems...
