There is a flexible hose near the firewall that attaches to the aluminum tube which continues down to the slave. This coupling is notorious for popping off without warning. It's happened twice on my 87 9kT (but I do have 190k miles on it.) There are other posts on this board about this, but I was able to work my hand down into the space and jam that connection back together. I shoved it as far onto the al tubing as it would go. It took years for it to pop off again. I now check it whenever I'm doing a service!
Good Luck!
