How did you clean it? I recommend a blast of clean air, like from those cans of compressed air for cleaning camera lenses. Then lubricate with a dry lubricant, not oil. I use a lubricant that contains teflon in a liquid, and the liquid evaporates, leaving the teflon. If you use an oil-based lubricant, it attracts dust, which is where the noise is probably coming from.
If cleaning it doesn't work, then Bill has a point- they do fail eventually.
