The tube is an aluminum stalk with the hex head only on the top. (At least on my 87 9kT.) Loosening the stalk is the first part of your task. Try dribbling some penetrating oil down the shaft (if its clean) and waiting a day or two. Since the shaft is AL and is twisted into Iron (FE) it may get locked in place until the assembly is heated up. Start the engine and let it run until the fan comes on. Shut it down and wait until you can safely reach in and loosen the tube. You can then determine when the area will be cool enough to bleed the system.
Bleeding the system may prove a bit daunting, but you can read my comments in the first part of Quasi's web posting on the topic.
Good Luck!
