Upper strut bearing plate

While installing my new front struts and springs I was inspecting the upper strut bearing/plate. With my finger in the middle, I spun it around. There was some slight grabs in the rotation. It was not as smooth as I would have liked. I needed the car this week so I put it back together as is. Once mounted up I did not notice the hesitation in rotation.
How often do these go bad? Do I need to replace mine given the description above? Where do I buy them, preferably inexpensively.
