Optima Recommended Charging Voltage is 13.8 to 15.0 Volts

The specs on Optima batteries (see link below) say that the recommended charging voltage (from either alternator or battery charger) is 13.8 to 15.0 V. If that is the case for other kinds of batteries, e.g., Interstate, DieHard, etc., then 14.9 V seems to be within the recommended range.
On the other hand, Haynes (p. 5A•3) says that a voltmeter connected across the battery terminals should read "approximately 12 to 13 volts, and no more than 14 volts"; and when as many accessories as possible are switched on, the alternator should maintain regulated voltage at "around 13 to 14 volts".
So, who knows. If Haynes is to be believed, then it seems to be the case that your charging system is slightly on the high side, but probably within the battery's recommended charging voltage range. Personally, I would rather have high side than low side.
Incidentally, someone previously commented about Optima possibly being more vulnerable to heat than conventional nonsealed water batteries. The Optima specs show that Optima has a J-240 Life Cycle of 10,000-12,000 cycles, whereas from the Interstate specs, the basic green top has been J-240 tested to 5,300 cycles (see graphic below from Interstate web site). So, I don't know who to believe.
