The only 9000s which are guaranteed to accept a 205/55/16 without problem are the '93+ body style. The earlier styles have smaller fender well, and people have reported rubbing with any 16" larger in diameter than 205/60. Some have gotten away with it, some report it only rubs at full lock, or only with the back fully loaded, etc. etc. 205/55/16 IS nearly an inch larger in overall diameter from a 205/50/16, 215/55/16 would thus be even farther off.
You can take your chances, or stick to the size that came stock on the turbos of that same year... 205/50/16. I know it's tempting when one sees the extra tire selection in 205/55/16, but I think there are some great tires in the 205/50 as well..
