The major cost of servicing the blower motor is the labor to get it out. It's easier in later cars (like 90/91 and newer), but still work. So if you've made the investment to have the motor removed, you're best off putting in a known good one. You don't want to spend money on labor twice trying to save a few bucks on the price of the part.
That said, the motor may not need to be removed. A squeaky motor isn't a good thing, but if it does it only intermittently, it may still have many years left. If runs infrequently, it might be a problem in the switch or ACC system (do you have manual knobs or the automatic climate control) or the wiring to the fan. A loose wire or a bad resistor pack would be a lot cheaper than replacing the fan, especially if the new fan does the same thing.
Find a mechanic willing to troubleshoot the problem, not just swap parts. He/she/it can connect up power to the blower motor very easily and see if the motor runs properly. If so, they can trace the problem. The hard part might be to find such a mechanic - most want to swap out parts, and you pay. In general troubleshooting doesn't make the mechanic as much money. This is not a knock on mechanics - they're just trying to make a living. But your best bet is finding the one that will actually try to figure out what's wrong before they start replacing $$$ items.
Good luck!
