Jim:
The dealership said that a new one would be $2k. Your local engine shop will most likely remove yours and send it out for rebuilding (new bearings, seals etc. for like $300, other parts extra.)
I dont think you will need a new one, just a new core or rebuild of yours.
Before you spend all that cashola, have the mechanic compression test the car, and go over it for other likely problems. Seems to me that everyone I've talked to believes in how great these rigs drive, and how long the engines last. Also, plan on replacing EVERY vaccuum hose in the engine. With a new/rblt turbo, you want all the control and right information getting to the computer for maximum fun.
There is probably a machine shop around you in CT (we moved to Albuquerque from CT 10 years ago; last place we lived wass Milford) that could help you out with the rebuild.
Have a great memorial day!!
