>Is this [X, in pic below] the rubber that you are saying to remove?
Yes, remove this, and you'll get access to the inside of the throttlehousing (T). Here's how to clean: Take that old toothbrush and soak it with injectorcleaner. With your other hand, open the throttlevalve from the outside, by moving the lever where the cable is attached. This'll enable you to clean both sides of the throttlevalve. Also, scrub a lot along/around the rim inside the housing, where the valve rests. Very often take out the toothbrush and poor some additional cleaner on to it aka use plenty!!! Re-assemble the rubber piece after you've "bruched your cars teeth", switch on the ignition and start the engine and have it idle for a while. Be aware that it might smoke a little at first or have a rough idle for 30 secs, as long as the cleaner burns off....
>I see that there is hose that returns from the IAC Valve (or at least >what I think is the IAC Valve) back to the underside of [T]. Anyway, I >guess this means that I have to remove [T] to be able to clean my IAC >Valve, right?
Not really! What I did, was when I had finished cleaning the throttlevalve/-housing inside, I simply poured (spelling) a little injectioncleaner down the tube going out under the throttlehousing. No much, a few oz. This will make the AIC-valve "inhale" a little cleaner, the first couple of times you run the engine afterwards, and will so clean the valve. Only if this doesn't suffice, you can go through the hassle of removing the intake.
>Also, according to the Parts book, I'm supposed to have a Charcoal >Canister. But I can't figure out where it is.
Don't really know, don't think it's important!
>Is [M] the Intake Manifold?
Yes!
>The drawings in the Parts book (page 02-56) suggests that some 4-cyl. >1994-onwards cars have an Upper Intake Manifold and a Lower Intake >Manifold, while others have just an Intake Manifold. I guess my car is of >the latter kind, if the drawing in the book is to be believed.
I think so too, my -92 has the upper/lower intake! From MY94 Saab swithed to the "short"-engine. Previous models had the "long"-engine. The manifold is part of the changes made.
How do you keep your enginecompartment that clean and nice looking??? I'm rather envious! ;o)
Cheers!
