My '96 Aero (147K miles) has developed a whistle/howl on boost that sounds like a windy night in an old black and white horror film (no thunder yet, thankfully!). Just about any amount of boost will do it, although it gets louder and possibly slightly higher-pitched as the boost pressure rises. I still get full boost, although I feel it may not be winding up as quickly as it normally does.
The noise is only apparent once the car has fully warmed up.
I suspect a leak in the induction system, but cannot find one. I've checked all the hoses (their undersides as well) and the security of all the hose clips. I may have missed something though. I have also replaced the bypass valve with a known good one.
Is there any part of the system that I should examine more closely? Is there a common cause of leaks in the system? Am I barking (or howling) up the wrong tree and the problem lies elsewhere?
