OK, so the blower motor was behaving very erratically, just wouldn't maintain speed. Sometimes it would even keep running after I turned the system off. So I figure it has to be the master controller in the dash. But then I notice that the motor is getting noisy (like a ticking or a rubbing sound), so I go ahead and replace it and now everything is fine. I cannot understand how a bad motor could continue to run after the system was turned off. Oh well, it's fixed and I'm happy that I don't have to pay a mint for a used control unit. Once again the lesson is driven home: When it comes to Saabs, blame the sophisticated ECU last.

I updated my site with pictures of the blower motor replacement and fan controller transistor replacement procedures. Be sure to hit Refresh or Reload to see the new content.
