1990 CD 2.0L turbo
I took the lower bolt out with a torx bit. I'm still trying to get the top the alternator disconnected. My newest hypothesis (supported by Haynes I think) is that I need to remove the power steering pulley bracket, as this is what is holding the top of the alternator. I removed the lower bolt on this bracket after pushing the tensionser out the way. But there seems to be at least one more bolt holding it in place. There are four large holes in the power steering pump pulley, any of which can be made to line up with what I believe is the remaining bolt holding the bracket on. However, it appears to be a square nut (that I cannot get a socket on) holding the end of a bolt coming from the opposite direction. I've tried an open faced wrench but cannot get more than an inch to work with and can't get it started. The other end of this bolt could take a socket but its extremely tight in there, and I'm not sure I can get a wrench in there. Does what I'm trying to do sound right? Why make it so hard? If instead of a square nut, it was a regular bolt or nut, I could put a socket on there through the whole in the pulley no problem. Am I trying to unscrew the wrong bolt?
Help, please. Is it supposed to be this hard?
