On your point of view. There are two lower engine mounts - these are available in hydraulic (not as expensive as they used to be, thank god), or solid rubber. The upper 'dogbone' mount has a bushing on each end which can be replaced separately from the other end.. You can get these in stock rubber, hard polyurethane, softer poly, and even softer poly with holes in it. They're all remarkably close in price, $40-50 per side. Then finally there is the transmission mount. This is available in stock rubber, or the soft poly with holes in it. But by soft, this is only in comparison to the other polys - think it's still harder than the rubber.
On my car, I have solid rubber in both lower engine mounts, stock rubber in the rear of the dogbone upper mount, medium poly (black) in the front of the dogbone mount, and the Abbott soft poly with holes in the transmission mount. My impressions:
Car shifts better than it ever has, in fact better than any other car I've driven. Vibration levels at idle are definitely up, but not to the annoyance level, just louder. Don't really get much rattling or resonances going on... but this is no Honda or Toyota, you won't have a problem telling when the engine is running. If you want that quality or as close to it as possible, by all means stick with hydraulic in the lower mounts, and rubber everywhere else. To me, the slight increase in vibration, evident at idle ONLY, is well worth the much better shift quality. Of course, if you have an automatic, your car will vibrate more anyway, and you don't shift it, so I'd definitely stick with hydraulic/rubber in that case.
