We have a 91 9K turbo automatic with 200K on it. The auto trans is now beginning to slip and will need to be rebuilt (gulp). My understanding is that the auto is unreliable but that has not been our experience. From a driving point of view I always prefered manuals to auto until we got the 9000. It is nothing short of spectacular in terms of smothness and performance. I have driven a number of manual 9K with minor (but very effective)performance enhancements and must say that although they are fun for when you want to haul ass, they are pain for normal driving in suburban/urban settings. Why? They are too fast. You are out of first instantly and the same goes for second. Hitting third hard throws you back in the seat and will cause everyone in the car to scream at you to slow down (don't listen to them!!!!). If you are doing family type transportation it is difficult to remain sedate with a manual without wearing out your left leg. All in all, the 9KT with an automatic is just about the perfect family car. Easy to drive around town but goes like a banchee from 35 -70 mph.
