Sorry to post this note to a very out of date thread, but I just want to compliment all of you for your knowledge and exposition of it. I won't name names, but I will say that the following bits of information were excellent:
1) a functional description of the TCS safety/dump valve;
2) a remark that the dump valve can go bad in as little as two years;
3) a comment about electrical opens in the dump valve.
Although my second dump valve in two years was already on it's way from McIntyre, IA last night, your posts make me a little more confident about it.
To add to your database of TCS failures, mine is the classic, works fine most of the time, but after a longish, 15 mins, drive, we get to limp home, with "TCS OFF" lit on the dash. Since this is a 95 Aero (90K miles, LeMans Blue), the check engine light blinks out a code before start up (ignition ON, not started, count for blinks followed by pause). 5 flashes indicates, according to my manuals, an ETS (Electronic Throttle) problem. This unfortunately is only the tip of the iceberg since there are a lot of things downstream from ETS. Two years ago, I broke down and got it onto a Tech II which interrogated the TCS computer to ID the dump valve.
Yesterday, the same problem hit my wife (who now has the 95) and I'm guessing the dump/safety bleeder again, especially with your help.
I do like the Aeros a lot.
Cheers,
Andy
