Make sure it just isn't the o'ring first, they leak and dribble down and drip just behind the pulley.
1. I've heard it's easy to diy this job. YES-sorta. lots of stuff comes off to get to it AC complicates it because of the bracket. wheel, belt, inner liner, brackets, etc.
2. Anything else I should look at before assuming water pump dead? o'rings/gasket leaks are common.
3. I have a pump from an 88 900 is it a direct swap with the one in my 88 9kt? Sorry, you are OOL here but those old parts do some times come in handy
The drip isn't all the large is there any danger from running with a dripping pump it level is topped off frequently? Not as long as you watch it and the puddle stays about same size if it starts growing(more water/ day) then I would consider fixing it. If it is coming out the weep hole behind the drive pulley it is going to get worse -the seal is going, going, gone maybe a month or two at best
