Probably not a leak Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Is it too late for Barr's leak?, jmike ![]() ![]() |
It's never too late. It just might not help.
If you get a slight smell that goes away after a minute, Bars Leaks will most probably help. I know it's worked fine for me.
If you can wipe the fogging off, it's probably water, not antifreeze. And a coolant leak will really stink.
First off, is your AC running? The AC will help defog the window. Otherwise, you'll just keep pushing moisture onto the windshield.
My guess is that since this seems to have come on really quickly, and you didn't mention the smell getting worse, that your AC drain is clogged. When the AC runs, it pulls water out of the air and that water drains out from the car - the water puddle under a car when the AC is running. That drain gets clogged with bits of leaves and dirt, and you now have a nice water supply you carry along. It can also fill up during a rain. When you first start the car, you're pulling air from over that nice pool of water, and it gets picked up and deposited on the inside of your windshield.
Open the hood, and make sure all the drains in the center grill area are clear. Remove the horizontal cover at the base of the windshield under the hood - one piece on 90 and later (or so) cars, two pieces on older cars. The AC coils are on the passenger side (US). Make sure the drains are clear.
Good luck!
