Mario,

I had the same problem and I think I am built like you are. I broke the seat belt panel, but I was able to fix it in about an hour (with fast drying epoxy and a long ty-rap). I have an 1987 9000 S model. I fixed the panel by:

1. Adjust the seat forward as far as it will go to provide access to the panel from the back seat area.

2. Remove the torx screws that secure the bottom of the panel (or the broken piece that's left) to the car's frame.

3. Remove the rest of the panel and save all clips, etc. I found it helpful to also remove the torx screws below the bottom of the panel that secure the plastic rug liner moulding/trim.

4. Epoxy the panel back together if craked or broken. If covered with vinyl, work carefully as not to tear it and be careful not to goop it up. In my case, the upper clip which secures the panel to the frame broke and caused the panel to loosen and break away from the bottom screws and when I brushed against it.

6. I drilled a pair of small holes 2.5 cm (one inch) apart in the clip area of the panel and installed a small metal retainer on the frame so I could secure the panel to the frame with a nylon ty-rap (wire tie) instead of using the clip. I used a 12" ty-rap to make routing it easier than using a short one.(When finished I cut off a 9" tail.)

7. Carefully install the repaired panel and loosely install the torx screws in the bottom.

8. While the panel is loose, route the ty-rap through the newly drilled holes and the newly installed retainer. Close the loop of the ty-rap, but don't tighten it yet.

9. Finish fitting the panel in place, then fully tighten the bottom screws, then tighten the ty-rap loop and cut off its tail.

10. Re-installed the other torx screw in the rug trim.

BTW - I purchase a seat belt extention from the local Saab dealer. I was a whopping $125, but the seatbelt no longer cuts into my shoulder when driving and I feel alot safer too.
