Ok, here's the storyline. I bought this car in April with about 110,500 miles on it. I know have slightly over 112,000. It's a 9000 Turbo with standard transmssion. I've been pretty happy so far with it's performance.
I noticed within the last month that it was idling rough when I started it. I would let the engine warm up for half a minute before driving, but I still had to push the gas pedal down hard to keep the engine from stalling. Occasionally I would stall out at stoplights, though, when I went from running idle in neutral to putting it in first. The stalling and rough idling seem to have stopped for now, though.
Then on Sunday night the dash instrument lights went dark. So I went in the fusebox and switched out fuses with a spare, and they came back on. The next day it happened again. I didn't have any more spares, so as a stopgap measure I decided to switch out the fuse from the clock. However, that fuse didn't work once I put it in the slot for the dash lights. So now I have a dark instrument panel and no clock. Fine. I decided to buy new fuses tonight after work.
Then last night the "INFO" panel (showing outside temp, voltage, etc.), the "idiot light" panel and the gas guage started going haywire. They flash wildly and change displays like a slot machine, while the gas needle goes up and down constantly. It looks like a bugs bunny cartoon.
Now prior to this my voltage indication was normal. It would start up at about 11.8 volts and be over 13 volts after I was driving.
Question: do I just have fuses that all went bad at once or did I screw something up when I switched them out? I only switched "10" fuses for other "10s". Or is this an indication of a more serious electrical problem?
The A/C, A/C controls, radio and equalizer are all operating fine, as are the lights, the car alarm and the power lock. I remember in a past life I had a bad alternator in a Pontiac, and ALL the electrical items started fading. So far my problems are localized to the instruments on the dash board.
THanks in advance.
