shaft. the shaft indexes into a geared sprocket that sort of a worm gear sextant gear train the sextant is on the seat back and the worm is at the end of the cable. The armor guard sort of keeps these in close proximity so the engagement will occur but I don't think it must hold these thing together, maybe some one else knows for sure. I think you will find that if the shaft is turning some how it has become detached from the worm at the seat back you may have to do more exploration of that end of it. Are you driving around sitting on a bucket?
On the pump , you are probably referring to the suction (supply) hose. clean every thing well use a new hose, a HD worm clamp that is torqued with a 1/4 inch socket. Tighten just enough to secure it but not to swell the hose around the clamp - a new hose won't leak. I believe the reason you can't gett it to stop leaking is the hose may be hard with a permanent set under the clamp or cracked. Attach to the pump side first thread up to the reservoir and clamp there. Use care on the reservoir because you can crack the plastic fitting if too tight. HTH
