Lee, I have had 5 Saab's (900's amd 9000's) over the last 20 years and I have found them to be terrific cars for my needs.
However, they are not for everyone and as a new-comer to the marque, you want to make sure that you do not end up with a 9000 that needs attention to variety of expensive "deferred" issues.
1. As others have said, check out Quasi's site.
2. Find an independent Saab mechanic (my 1st choice) or a Saab USA dealer (my 2nd choice) to evaluate the '92 9000 that you are considering.
I would not own an older Saab unless I knew that there was a smart independent Saab mechanic in the area---they wil save you much $$ in the long run over a mechanic that is not steeped in Saab specifics.
3. It's just my my personal opinion, but I believe that the turbo 9000's are much more versatile cars for the long run (as opposed to non-turbo models). I would not worry about the turbo system on a well-maintained 9000---the turbo system is a strong point of Saab models of the years you are considering. (GM has turned over *all* GM turbo engine resaerch & development to Saab engineers.) Use Mobil-1 synthetic oil in your Saab and your turbo system will spin for many-100k miles. I have never had to replace a turbo system on my Saab's, and that included models from the early 1980's that almost always required Mobil-1 to avoid high-temp coking of the turbo bearings.
Good luck!
Bob
