My story may save you BIG money! (Second Try)

A couple weeks ago, my '93 9000CS started making a few funny noises. They sounded like they were coming from underneath the left side of the spark plug assembly. I tried to get down there to take a look, but I couldn't see anything. So, I drove my car 2.5 hours to a reputable mechanic (who I know I can trust) to take a look at it.
As it turns out, the timing chain was starting to break. One of the pins that holds the links together was broken in half ... and one half of the pin was missing! Had the other half of the pin fallen out, the engine probably would have seized, and I would have been looking at $3000-5000 in repairs ... or a new engine. (He couldn't believe that I had driven in 2.5 hours to the shop ... not including the week before that I had been listening/checking the car out on my own!)
From what I understand, he replaced the gears and chains that were problematic. (If you replace a gear, you replace the chain at the same time. That's what I've heard, at least.) He also replaced some worn pulleys and belts, and he checked on my headlight relay (free of charge!).
I'll be picking up my car later this afternoon ... and dropping down a payment for $1100. Yeah, it's high ... but it's a lot lower than $3000 or $5000 would be.
I hope this helps out someone in the future. And, when I get a chance, I'll try to post some scans of the damaged parts. I'm very interested to see what the gears/chains look like.
Sincerely,
Michael O'Brien (USA)
