Synthetic ATF for auto tranny

I want to do everything possible to prolong the lifespan of the auto tranny. I recently saw an advertisement in the local car magazine about a synthetic ATF from Redline. Has anyone tried that? Does it offer smoother shift and better protection than normal ATF?
It seems using synthetic ATF is not contemplated by Saab as there is absolutely no mention of it in the owners manual of my 9000CS 2.0 LPT (MY95). I've read complaints on this BB that Redline synthetic MTF wrecks manual tranny, and I don't know if their synthetic ATF will do likewise to auto tranny.
