First off, there is no connection between the hot key and the burned out bulbs.

The EDU bulbs burn out. That's a fact of life. They are a bit of a pain to replace, but it's a DIY task. See Quasi's site for how to remove the top of the dashboard and get to the instrument panel.

You can buy the bulbs from Saab - not cheap, but you don't go through a lot of them.

As to the hot ignition key and lock - I assume it's summer where you are. When you first get into the car, it's hot in there, but the A/C quickly brings the temp down. But the ignition lock is a big block of metal, and it's been heat soaking all day, and it has the insulation of the plastic surround. Stick the key in, and the key will heat up. Basically, that big block of metal just doesn't cool down that fast.

Try this for an experiment. First thing in the morning, go for a drive. Is the key hot at the end of the drive? I'll bet it isn't.

There are cases where the contacts in the ignition switch get dirty and the switch gets warm, but you'll have significant starting problems long before you notice the lock cylinder getting hot. This one's just physics.
