You may or may not have reduced boost.
The APC system reduces boost when it detects knock. The octane rating is a measurement of a fuel's resistance to knock - the higher the rating, the harder it is to get the fuel to predetonate (knock).
The octane rating in the manual is for most cars when they leave the factory to get full boost. There are engine-to-engine differences, and those differences increase as the engines age. Some engines become more prone to knock, and need higher octane fuel to get full boost. Other engines become less prone, and can get full boost with lower octane fuel.
So if your engine didn't knock on 92 and you got full boost (needle right up to the red), it may very well get full boost on 91. Heck, it may give you full boost on 89. It doesn't matter what somebody else's car does ('I need 94 octane', or 'I can get full boost on kerosene and cat urine') - unless you're buying fuel for their cars, don't sweat it.
Try the 91. It won't hurt your engine. The 'worst' that will happen is that you'll notice a reduction of full boost. And that may be only under certain conditions, like hot days only.
