I have heard of people doing this on early 900s, so I'm sure it's possible. You would need more than just the Trionic unit, e.g. the wiring connector, MAP sensor and perhaps other sensors too. If you don't have Direct Ignition, I imagine you would need a DI cartridge along with its wiring harness. Control-wise, you wouldn't need the air mass meter, although you may need to leave it there to join the pipes together. I believe the boost control solenoid is different on Trionic cars.
The major challenge would be wiring this all in.
As for advantages, Trionic cars are supposedly a bit smoother and possibly a bit more powerful. The only real advantage I see in doing this (and the reason for converting the older 900s) is to take advantage of the tuning potential of Trionic. There are many companies who will reprogram Trionic units for more power and some who will undertake custom applications. I would suggest asking on the Performance bulletin board for more information. Someone on there asked about this recently (search for "Trionic") and someone else even mentioned a 2-stroke 3-cylinder motorcycle engine running Trionic and with a 4-cylinder DI cassette sitting on top!
