Message received from Michael Smith:
Most Euro car stereos have a special removal tool to foil thieves. Trouble
is, the professional thief probably has one!
I can't answer your question directly except to say that my 86 came with
stereo removal tools in the owner's manual folder. These were flat sheet
metal jigs that fit matching slots in the side of the radio and equalizer
units. My replacement Clarion has a removable faceplate instead, the radio
won't work without this plate. I don't know how my 97 Aero Harmon Kardon
stereo is removed, no tools came with the car but it needs a secret code re
entered if the power is interrupted, as when the radio is removed.
I'd check with a local SAAB dealer for the right tool for the job. Removal
of the radio every time you park will be a pain as the plugs need to be
disconnected also. Car insurance might be a better long term solution!
