While replacing the BS gears on my '91 9kt this weekend, I decided to replace the seal on the oil pump while the timing cover was off. Unfortunately, the gears fell out as I lifted the OP cover from the timing chain cover. As a result, I wasn't able to identify where the gears meshed with one another as suggested by the Haines manual. I have not reassembled the engine yet and need some guidance on this issue.
I am relatively certain that I remember the punch mark on the outer gear as being pointed away from the engine/timing cover and have installed it as such (with the punch mark cradled inside the oil pump cover, pointing away from the timing cover). Is this correct? Also, since I didn't mark the mating point of the pump gears, will I have a problem as a result. Do I need to purchase new oil pump gears?
Thanks,
Dan Y
