I haven't play with my steering rack yet (though my car could probably use a new one) but tie rods end aren't too hard (assuming they aren't siezed!) Just use a ruler or calipers to measure the the exposed length of thread and set the new ones equal to that. Of course you will need an alignment, but the ruler method with certainly get you about right. Now would also be a good time to replace the ball joints and rear control arm bushing which are also quite cheap and fairly easy. Your steering will feel incredibly better after you do all that and it will hold the alignment better too.
