Just had mine re-tested (and passed) yesterday morning at MOTest, Bennets End Road. My emissions are a bit flaky - weak mixture. It just scraped through. They weren't too worried about some slight exhaust blow as it was a new exhaust. They work on a no-appointment basis, but this can mean you find a queue when you turn up. OK for me as I work in Hemel and could come back later if the queue was too long. Get there about 8am and you'll probably be first in line. They're open to 7:30pm a couple of days a week, too.
My system is a JT 3" turbo-back system form Maptun in Sweden. You wouldn't get one before the 28th, though (and I'm not telling you where I park my car at night!) It looks quite discreet and sounds quite nice - a bit throatier than standard. I thought my emissions problem might be down to the exhaust, but Bill Davies has had his CSE (with the same exhaust) emissions tested and it is well within spec.
I have been told the Abbott system is quite noisy, and the downpipe alone costs more than I paid for the complete JT system. The other system I considered was Jetex. However, they took so long to get back to me on their stock situation that I'd already ordered the JT system.
Depending on where the blow is in your pipe, you could probably patch it up with some exhaust repair tape (the aluminium self-adhesive stuff) from Halfords. I used that to wrap two of the joints on the JT that I couldn't get to seal. If you effect a temporary repair for the MOT, you have time to think about what to fit.
