OK, my dad knows nothing about cars so I agree to help him out. I told him on Monday that his problem was a blown turbo and that all he would have to do is to take it to the dealer and they would fix it under warranty.

But, of course, this is a Saab dealer. The dealer finally looks at the car last night and says that the car is fine. My dad screams about the cloud of smoke so they look at it again. This time they say the problem is that the oil was overfilled by 2 quarts and accuse my dad of having the car serviced somewhere else. In reality, the last service was an $800 30k mile service performed by them 2 months ago. Also, I put in a quart of oil right before we brought it to the dealer because the sump was all but dry, and I know exactly how much oil was in there.

So, today they say the car is all set to go. They changed the oil, ran the codes, checked the wastegate rod and all is well. I go out there and ask what is going on. They say the car is fine. So, I say let's drive it. The mechanic drives it with me in the car and the turbo won't even hit the yellow. He redlines it in 1st through 3rd and the turbo goes almost to the yellow. He tells me that the problem is that the car is "adaptive" and has adapted to my dad's driving style and that's why there's no turbo boost. I am telling him that this is a load of crap when the car starts blowing massive smoke from the exhaust. Instead, I ask how to adapt to the smoke.

So, after 4 days, the dealer has diagnosed a failed turbo. Now they have to find a turbo, which, 4 hours later, they haven't started to do. Then, I say what about the cat? They say it's fine. Which means another round of this. Also, I know they are going to want us to pay for the oil change and the 4 hours of diagnostic work they did.

Only at the dealer.
