cleaning the clutch pressure plate

'87 9000 turbo, 5spd
Ok I have rebuilt the master, removed the transmission, rebuilt the slave, removed the clutch pressure plate and cover, and unbolted the flywheel. Several questions now exist unanswered.
The clutch plate and the two peices of metal on either side do not look "scorched", nor are they pitted (in the radial or angular directions). All surfaces feel smooth to the touch. The clutch plate itself still has the original notches, as well as a decent coating of clutch dust. I see flecks of bronze/copper in the disk but do not have a micrometer to measure its thickness.
How can I clean these pieces? Is a standard engine degreaser sufficient (eg "NAPA engine cleaner/degreaser") or should special caution be taken?
In my previous description are there any warning flags that would necessitate a new clutch "pressure(?)" plate? These seem to cost ~$150 and I'd rather spend that money on 15 bottles of Italian wine.
No oil is leaking from the rear engine seal and the odometer reads about 120K. What are the odds that I have to pull the whole beast apart in 6 months to replace that rear engine seal?
There is oil residue on the engine. If it isn't coming from the rear seal, what is most likely leaking? Turbo? Head Gasket? I will post pictures tomorrow evening.
