I've used Bars Leaks very successfully, with no problems whatsoever. So this is a definite "your milage may vary".
Just dump the Bars Leaks into the coolant tank (expansion tank), put the top back on, and go for a drive. It'll work it's way to where it needs to be.
Bars Leaks doesn't clump into large chunks and clog the system. It only blocks very fine holes. Don't think of it as some giant blob that will congeal in the first 15 minutes. It becomes very fine particles that interact with air at the leak. Manufacturers use it in new cars. Now, if your cooling system is on its last legs, with an almost corroded closed radiator and thermostat old enough to vote, Bars leaks won't help, and probably could hurt. But if the cooling system is in any kind of decent shape, it can help. If the heater core has a slight leak, it can fix it. If it's a big leak, it won't.
Slight leak - if you get a whiff of coolant when you turn the heat on, or a slight smell while driving with the heat on. Big leak - the windshield fogs up from leaking coolant, and/or there is a drip on the rug behind the center console.
