Mid-yellow is base boost, so it does really sound like the APC is cutting in.
A few things - yes the plugs may be new, but make sure they are the EXACT NGK's specified - no substitutions! Yes, one can play games with other kinds, but only when the engine is running perfectly. Also, make sure the gap was checked on each plug before they went into the engine. Plugs don't come out of the box right for your engine, and even if they're gapped at the factory, the gap can change in shipping.
The Trionic system in your car doesn't use a conventional knock sensor - it uses the spark plugs as sensors to monitor the combustion process. So getting the exact right plug is of critical importance.
Of course, your engine could be knocking, even on premium gas. This can be caused by a vacuum leak, low fuel pressure (check fuel pressure regulator), carbon buildup in the cylinders, slow/tired O2 sensor, or problems with the MAP (Manifold pressure) sensor, just to name a few.
If the plugs check out, have the mechanic do a Trionic re-adaptation-it's easy and quick. If that doesn't do it, start looking for things that cause knock.
