I think I may have tracked down the exhaust flange leak on my '96 Aero. One of the studs in the turbo had worked its way halfway out, then seized. I think the nut was bottoming on the end of the thread before it pulled the flange tight.

Anyway, I persuaded it to part with the turbo. However, it left most of the siezed threads in there so I'll have to tap it out. Now, the end that takes the nut appears to take an M8x1.25 nut quite happily and the other end looks the same, but is it? I can't easily check because the threads are a bit of a mess and I don't want to risk removing the other studs. I'll obviously get another stud, but in the meantime I need to be sure I have a tap that will do the job (I have an M8x1.25).

Also, am I naive to think I can do this with the turbo in the car? The stud in question is the rear one. Is this a turbo-out job? If so, what do I need apart from the stud?
