If you are lucky the clutch bearing siezed and smoked the belt. And if it was the clutch bearing you will be even luckier if it did not get hot and eat the front seal out of the compressor. More common (and more expensive) is a compressor failure. Grab the center clutch plate (front middle on the compressor) and see if it turns. You may be lucky and it turns. If it does check to see if the refridgerant is still in the system. Remove a service port cap and real quick press on the center of the valve. DO NOT LOOK BUT LISTEN!!!! If you are lucky you will get a blast of Freon. If it turns but no freon you need to replace the compressor at a minimum. If it turns and you still have Freon, then you MAY just need a clutch bearing. If not you are looking at: Compressor, belt, Receiver-drier (filter), flushing the system, oil, and Freon. And maybe an expansion valve also, cheap insurance cause they are cheaper to replace than clean. Throw in a couple of "O"rings and there is the parts list. If you are the DIY type you will also need a flush kit, a vacume pump (and the legal types also require a recovery unit) and a service unit with gages.
Hope you are lucky. I have all the tools and when my compressor siezed (88 9k) my parts bill was close to $450. My 80 900T used a lower cost compressor and filter, the last time it only ran $325.
Luck to ya!
