I spent A LOT of money trying to get the A/C fixed in my '92 9000 Turbo. It seemed like everyplace I went told me that it was a different, major component that was faulty. I've got a new compressor, evaporator, expansion valve, and cooling fan - and the A/C system is still faulty. I think the actual problem was just a pinhole leak somewhere, which you'd think they would've picked up witht the multitude of dye tests they performed on it.
I've since switched it to R-134 (mine was obviously one of the earlier '92 9000s that still had the R-12), so I just charge it myself now. For about $12 at Pep boys you can purchase the high-pressure hose needed to connect the can of refridgerant to the A/C unit, and the actual can of R-134 only costs about $6. I wish I'd known all this before I dropped around $3,000 replacing the entire system.
