The difference is only about 10hp - the '92 has a 2.3L 150hp 4, the '88 has a 2.0L 160hp 4. The turbos are a lot of fun and do have more torque, but chances are the '92 has a lot more life in it, for a couple of reasons. First, the turbo model was probably driven harder than the N/A (you never know, it could have been the other way around, but that is a general rule). Second, I've heard that the later trasmissions are more durable than the earlier ones. The '92 does have the Direct Ignition module, which can be prone to failure, whereas the '88 has a regular distributer. If it is a base model and not an S, it doesn't have all the options the turbo has (leather, automatic climate control). But maybe being 4 years newer makes up for that.
Good luck :)
Franz
