No start solved - coolant temp sensor !!

I recently changed my coolant temp sensor and oil level sensor, and car subsequently would not start. Cranks and cranks, seems to be getting gas, won't turn over. Checked DI cassette, wiring harnesses, plugs, blah blah blah, all seemed fine. I noticed check engine light flashing so checked the code, it was a blink-blink-blink-blink, which according to Townsend is "coolant temp sensor"! A coolant temp sensor could prevent car from starting? I guess so, because after I dug the old one out of the garbage, sanded it down a bit to refresh the metal surface and shined it up with steel wool, re-installed it, car started on first try.
Thanks to those who posted suggestions about FPR and crank sensor, I have learned some new things about the fuel system on the car now. Of course, I still have the original cold-engine-hesitation problem the coolant temp sensor was supposed to fix ... but at least it starts now.
