The cams are under the valve cover. But to remove the cams, you'll need to open up the timing chain, and the cams are under significant pressure from the valve springs.
I highly recommend you get yourself a manual to do this. It's straightforward, but there is major opportunity to mess things up royally if you haven't set the engine to the proper rotation first, that sort of thing. The UK Haynes manual may have this information. I would buy the Bentley 900 16V manual. Yes, it's for the 900, but the engines are just about exactly the same, and the Bentley manual is much clearer and more comprehensive.
