Found a loose hose but ..

Reconnected a hose at the back of the engine and it seems to be running OK now (idling fine, no bucking). The check engine light is still on - should it of gone off ? The fuel consumption still seems a little high and the power seems hesitant in first gear.

Also, I found a metal cable at the right rear of the engine that wasn't attached to a corresponding lever. I've reattached that too but it's very loose - what is it ?
