Saab 9000 alarm system

My 91 Saab 9000 has a malfunctioning alarm system. A few years ago, the alarm was going off in my office parking lot every day for no apparent reason. When I took it to the Saab dealer to have it disconnected, I was told that it would be an expensive repair because the drivers door panel would have to be taken off and some work done inside. Instead, they recommended that it be placed in transport mode and it would solve the problem. It has been fine for a few years but now when I lock the doors to go into a mall etc., when I come out, the lights are flashing but the alarm is not sounding. When I tried to start the car, the car wouldn't start while the lights were flashing. This continued for a few minutes before the car was able to start again. The same thing has happened in my driveway. I am afraid to lock the car now in case I can't get it going when I'm away from home. Since it's an old car, I don't really need the alarm system anymore. Does anyone out there know how I can successfully disconnect the whole alarm system without doing a lot of technical repairs or costing a lot of money? I'd be grateful to anyone who has an answer.
Brian
