ACC Recirculate Flapper Stuck

My 93 9000na recirculate flapper is stuck in the shut position i.e., no outside air. I knew it wasn't working for a while and ran the ACC2 self test when the blower motor stopped working too. The ACC showed no faults so I pulled the aquarium cover and found the blower control socket and the plug melted. I cleaned them up and restored power to the fan, so the blower control itself isn't fried yet. I'll wait till it and/or the fan motor totally go before replacing and, based on posts I searched here, will pay someone to do it since it seems the fan is ridiculously hard to get out.
My question is how hard is it to get the recirculate motor out? I pulled the plug and verified that the voltage is correct and switches polarity when the recirc button is hit, so it must be the motor. This looks a little more accessible than the fan motor and if it's easier, I'll do it myself. Still, it looks pretty daunting to get out. Does anyone know how to do this?
Also, shouldn't the ACC have picked up faults due to it being broken?
