I have had similar problems. I think the cause is one of 2 things. The wire was not crimped into the fuse connector socket correctly. Or the contact did not have enough tension to properly mate with the fuse. Either one will cause the connection to overheat. And melt the plastic around it. A solution I have used with success in the past is to move the fuse to a spare location. I got the contacts out of a parts car (900 or 9k, they are the same). They can be removed with a very small jewlers screwdriver or a scribe. kEEP 3 TO 4 INCHES OF WIRE ON THE USED CONTACT AND MAKE SURE IT CAME FROM THE SAME SIZE (10, 20 ,30 AMP, ETC)circuit. Splice it in with a quality(I use military spec type) crimp conector and most important, the right tool! The cheapies in the kits at the chain stores for 10 bucks do not cut it. Mine is a rachet type that will not stop till you squeeze it far enough. Made by DMC (Daniels Mfg Co). Well, it did run $180 BUT...worth every penney to me. There are some lower cost ones out there that work, its just you need to use them twice on each end of a connector, mine you only squeeze once. use a label maker to identify the new fuse location.
